The Holy Family
The Holy Family; Jesus Mary, Joseph, serving as the model of love, obedience, and faith for Christian households. They represent a real, humble family that faced hardships—such as fleeing to Egypt and losing Jesus in the Temple—yet kept God at the centre of their lives. They are considered the ultimate example of a family united in faith, love, and virtue.
The Gospels highlight key events that took place in their humble lives, including the Nativity in a stable, the flight into Egypt to escape King Herod, the return to Nazareth, and the finding of the 12-year-old Jesus in the Temple.
They embody humility, dedication, and patience, providing a model for managing family relationships. Pope Benedict XVI called them an icon of the "domestic Church," urging families to pray and work together in imitation of the Holy Family of Nazareth. Although they are "holy," the family experienced real challenges, showing that holiness can be found in daily life, work, and difficult circumstances.
The Feast of the Holy Family is celebrated on the Sunday after Christmas.
Prayer to the Holy Family
Dear Lord, Bless our family. Be so kind as to give us the unity, peace, and mutual love that You found in Your own family in the little town of Nazareth.
Saint Joseph, pray for the head of our family. Obtain for him the strength, the wisdom, and the prudence he needs to support and direct those under his care.
Mother Mary, pray for the mother of our family Help her to be pure and kind, gentle and self-sacrificing. For the more she resembles you, the better will our family be.
Lord Jesus, bless the children of our family. Help them to be obedient and devoted to their parents. Make them more and more like You. Let them grow, as You did, in wisdom and strength and grace before God and man.
Holy Family of Nazareth, by your intercession, love, and holy example, make our family and home more and more like Yours, until we are all one family, happy and at peace in our true home with You.
